What is the trend for 2005?

Every time a new year starts, we get a lot of e-mails with these questions. Finally, we have gathered some of the industry's veterans and budding professionals to share their observations on last year's styles and most importantly, their forecasts for this year's wedding trends.

Since 1989, The Manila Catering Services, spearheaded by Ms. Milit Baron, has been serving its sumptuous dishes to both corporate and wedding occasions. She is also the woman behind successful enterprises such as Bistro Basilico (Quezon City, M.M.) and Café Maja Rica (Tarlac City, Tarlac).

Last year, there are more and more couples opting for non-hotel, garden setups. Two-, three-toned motifs (hues of yellow, orange) were very popular.

For this year, some of the trends I foresee are multi-color motif, use of rectangular tables instead of round ones in reception, multi-buffet offerings (several buffets offering different cuisines).

The above trends are due to the fact that nowadays, couples are more independent and more involved with the planning, thus, being able to inject more of their own personal styles, tastes.

Mr. Robert Camba has been serving the local wedding industry for 15 years. He is a founding member of the Food Caterers Association of the Philippines (FCAP).

Last year, most couples' wedding motifs consist of two-tone combination (orange and matt gold). More couples opted for a garden reception set up, with gazebos and tiffany chairs.

For year 2005, on motif, they say it's aqua blue or aqua green. Regardless of the color, I foresee the two-tone combination to still be prevalent.

On food, more stylish lighting on the food set up, more on-the-spot cooking. We will be having a luau menu this year which I believe will be a hit to couples who want more.

2004 brought out a lot of oranges, golds and burgundy. Garden weddings were really 'in', to the extent that some would transform an indoor ballroom into a 'garden'. Buffet is always a popular choice.
